Thank you for subscribing! I am so excited to have you on board for this experiment. Here is some information on what to expect with this serial fiction.
When & Where?
The first chapter dropped Wednesday, June 18.
Every Wednesday and Saturday, you’ll receive the next installment.
Estimated length of series: 12 weeks (we’ll have this elevator hit the lobby right after Labor Day)
Reading time of each chapter: 5-10 minutes
If you need to catch up or want to reread a chapter, a Table of Contents will be on the main page. This is also how new readers can catch up.
The entire chapter will come to you via email. If you download the Substack app (it’s free), you can also access content there.
She Gets the Girl vs The Elevator
She Gets the Girl is the website name, which hosts the fiction. The Elevator is the first series. If this goes well, maybe there’ll be more. And then they’ll be hosted on She Gets the Girl. Other non-serial fiction lives there too.
How you can support The Elevator
Substack is a glorified social media platform with an algorithm even Stephen Hawking couldn’t explain. But that algorithm likes when people read posts, heart (𖹭) them, or make comments. The algorithm will then put that post in front of more people, who could then become subscribers.
If you like something you read, any of the following activities are incredibly supportive:
Heart it at the bottom (either in email or app)
Make a comment
Share the post with someone else who may want to subscribe (you can also give them the url: shegetsthegirl.substack.com)
Share on your socials to generate interest
Providing feedback to the author
“When you read something I wrote, as you are right now, we’re together. Even though we’re not sitting next to each other, we’re spending this time, this very moment, together.” ~ Maggie Smith
For me, one of the coolest things about this experiment is that reader is seeing this unfold a few weeks after it plops on the screen from my brain.
Yes, I do have the story arc generated with all the key moments, but the last chapters haven’t been written. (Well, the last chapter HAS been written, but that’s discussion for another time.) I write in real time, about a few weeks ahead of when the chapter goes public.
If you have a reaction/question, you can direct chat me on Substack or email me. I appreciate all feedback!
Read some microfiction
To help readers get a sense of my style, there is a page of microfiction on the site.
If you like opossums, you might enjoy this one. 🦡
If you like Disney, this one may elicit some emotion. 🏰
If you like drunk wiener dogs, check out this one. 🍷
Why am I doing this?
My background is corporate HR training. I was laid off in late 2023 and decided I never want to deal with corporate BS again. Tapping into some old passions (e.g. writing) is an important part of me figuring out this next chapter.
It’s also about telling the universe that I’m ready for something different and here’s what I’m putting out there. I’m a big believer the universe takes note and then sends abundant opportunities.
Also, I have another publication where I journey through the intersections of purpose at midlife, perimenopause, career change, women’s fitness, and mental health. Check that out if you’re in that demographic.
Subscription Tiers
Free Subscribers receive two chapters of The Elevator per week.
Paid Subscribers receive two chapters per week plus:
Subscriber only posts, including behind the scenes of writing a serial fiction novella
Author/community chat and Q&A
A chapter-by-chapter playlist, where each track embodies the essence of the unfolding narrative (or the cognitive state of the author when it was written 😉)
That’s all!
Thank you for being a subscriber and I hope you enjoy this experiment. I greatly appreciate your support. ~ Karen
